NEW DELHI: Bharti Enterprises announced a major organisational recast on Tuesday, strengthening the position of telecom heads Gopal Vittal and Christian de Faria and moving company veteran Manoj Kohli to head non-telecom businesses, marking the group's bid to empower a new generation of leaders.

As reported by ET on January 27, Vittal, currently India chief executive at Bharti BSE -1.52 % Airtel, will also get charge of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He will be designated managing director and CEO of India and South Asia. That restores the structure that had prevailed earlier under Vittal's predecessor Sanjay Kapoor.

NEW DELHI: US food and beverage maker PepsiCo on Monday named former Nokia executive D Shivakumar as its chairman and CEO for India region, a position lying vacant since Manu Anand quit in June.

Shivakumar — who was managing director at Nokia India before taking over as the handset maker's senior vice-president for India, Middle East and Africa in 2011 — is PepsiCo India's first outsider CEO since Rajeev Bakshi, who led the firm from 2001 to 2006.

KOLKATA: Ravi Dhar (22nd batch/1985-1987), an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, and George Rogers Clark Professor of Management and Marketing at Yale School of Management, feels Indian B-schools must radically change the way they function or risk becoming irrelevant to top global corporate houses.

Speaking to TOI after receiving the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIM-C, Dhar, who has an affiliated appointment as professor of psychology at Yale and an expert in consumer behaviour and branding, marketing management and marketing strategy, said premier B-schools in India, like IIMs and ISB, need to sort out the tension between relevance and rigour and become more international.

Wipro appoints Ireena Vittal (25th batch /1988-1990) as board member

Bangalore: Wipro Ltd., India’s third-largest software services company, on Tuesday named former McKinsey & Co. executive Ireena Vittal as a director on its board effective immediately—the company’s first woman board member in three decades.

Gulbanoo Premji, chairman Azim Premji’s mother, was a director on the Wipro board for 17 years till 16 September, 1983, and no woman has been on the board since.

Vittal’s appointment comes after chairman Premji said at Wipro’s annual shareholder meeting in July that the company would bring on a woman board member before its next annual meeting.

United Spirits Ltd BSE -0.44 % (USL) today said its board has appointed Anand Kripalu as CEO-Designate of USL with effect from 1 October 2013 and he will assume charge as MD and CEO on May 1 2014.

T V Narendran (23rd batch/1986-1988) appointed Managing Director designate of Tata Steel

The Board of Tata Steel, on Thursday, appointed T V Narendran as Managing Director designate, India and South East Asia, inducting him into the board as an additional director. He will succeed H M Nerurkar, the present Managing Director, who reaches superannuation on October 31, 2013.

Making this and other announcements on Thursday, Tata Steel said that the new leadership structure and a series of executive appointments were being made as part of its drive to accomplish its strategic business objectives.

Mr. Narendran is currently Vice President (Safety & Flat Products), Tata Steel. He joined the company after completing his MBA from IIM Calcutta in 1988. He takes charge on November 1, 2013.

Nishi Vasudeva (12th batch/1975-1977) becomes first woman to head Navratna company

NEW DELHI: Oil industry traditionally has been a male bastion. Nishi Vasudeva is set to break that proverbial glass ceiling by becoming the first woman to head an oil company when she takes over the reins of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.

Vasudeva is the marketing director of the company and will succeed Subir Roychoudhury, who retires on February 28. The Public Enterprises Selection Board chose Vasudeva from among seven candidates on Wednesday.
